Chatting books online Day 23. Since everyone suddenly has more time on their hands , and since getting outside on a solitary basis is good for you and maintains social distance ; today’s recommended book is The National Audubon Society’s Field Guide to Birds : Eastern Region. Bird watching is practically made for social distancing so now is an excellent time to take up this hobby and this is the guide book to help you . (And yes , we are considered the Eastern Region ). With 646 color photos grouped by appearance you can use this guide to identity all those birds you are suddenly hearing now that you have time to listen !

Day 22: Blank Journals
Chatting books online Day 22 . Today’s recommended book is one you write yourself ! So many of you are planting gardens for the first time you will want to remember what did well , which seed varieties you used , what maybe did not do well in a particular location of your garden etc . What better way to record this information than in one if these beautiful garden themed journals . Flora Forager ($16.95, 144 pages ) has lined pages with pictures of garden flowers and birds actually made from dried flowers adorning the corners of the pages , and the Floret Farms Cut Flower Gardening journal ($15.95, 128 pages) has lined pages some of which have pencil sketches in the corners and then the journal is interspersed with full color glossy prints of some of the beautiful images Floret Farms has become so well known for on Instagram .
But even if you do not garden , journaling may be just the think to help you get your thoughts together during this strange time in which we are living. And since the pages are blank it is up to you what you fill them with . That said , if you don’t want something so flowery , we do also carry sets of Bibliophile notebooks . These paperback notebooks come in a set of 3 (60 pages each) each having different stacks of books on the cover (3 pack for $12.95) and lined pages throughout. So whatever you are thinking as we go through this situation, use one of these journals to collect your thoughts .

Day 21: Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson
Chatting Books Online Day 21. Today's recommended book is Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson. To be perfectly honest this is not really a book that ever appealed to me growing up, I guess I just thought of it as a "boys book" so I never even attempted to read it. That is until when a few years ago I decided to read through a list of the 100 Greatest Books of All Time (as decided by someone I guess). Anyway, one of the books was Treasure Island so I picked up a copy and started reading - AND I LOVED IT ! Fantastic book for anyone be they boy, girl, young, or older. I was truly on the edge of my seat throughout.
We sell it in this lovely cloth bound edition for $14.99. This book is an Accelerated Reader BL level of 8.3 and is worth 12 points.

Day 20: Harry the Dirty Dog by Gene Zion

Harry the Dirty Dog was Scottie’s favorite book when we were little so when I saw this video of Betty White reading it online I knew two things . First, that we had to sell this book in our bookstore from now on ; and Second , that it had to be today’s recommended book . So without further ado here is Betty White reading Scottie’s favorite book.

Day 19: The Ice Garden by Moira Crone
Chatting books online Day 19. Today’s recommended book is The Ice Garden by Moira Crone . I first read this book several years ago when I heard Moira Crone would be speaking at The Writers and Readers Symposium . At the time I did not know anything about this award winning writer, but this book blew me away . Both haunting and memorable this story of two sisters and their relationship with their mentally ill mother is a heart stopper . To me the style and mood of the novel feels like a cross between The Help and To Kill a Mockingbird. Beautifully written , this novel sticks with you for years .
We sell this novel in paperback for $18.95.
