Day 183: Anxious People by Fredrik Backman

Chatting Books Online Day 183 . Today’s recommended book comes to us from author Fredrik Backman . You may have read his book A Man Called Ove ( and if you haven’t, then you should), or perhaps Beartown, or My Grandmother Asked Me To Tell You She’s Sorry . And if you have read those then you will know you will want to read his newest : Anxious People without my having to tell you but in case you need me to tell you anyway - Today’s recommended book is Anxious People by Fredrik Backman .

This book is funny , compassionate , deeply absurd, and also deeply moving . It brings together : a failed bank robbery , a hostage situation , an apartment open house , a real estate agent , a young couple expecting their first child , an older couple trying to find meaning in their retirement , a woman deeply in therapy (and deeply in need of it ), two police officers , a fireworks display , and a naked rabbit . All wrapped together in a tightly woven narrative you will enjoy immensely .

We sell the book in hardcover for $28. It is also available in a very enjoyable audiobook through our audiobook partner Libro.fm/conundrumbooks (and I know it is well done because I listened to it on this service - great entertainment while driving and washing down my porch this weekend ). Chatting Books Online Day 182: The Week in Review September 7 - 13, 2020.

Another week of book recs is finished and apparently I have been in touch with my inner child this week because 4 of the books were technically from the children's section ( though I think anyone would enjoy them),

This week we started out talking books with The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore by William Joyce, then kept up the book talk with Voracious by Cara Nicoletti (where a "Hungry Reader Cooks her way through great books).  We then moved onto the only novel in our list this week:  Ann Patchett's The Dutch House.  And then we rounded out the week with 3 storybooks each with a wonderful and uplifting message :  Uni the Unicorn, What Do You Do With An Idea? , and Maybe.  Well I don't know about you , but I am feeling uplifted now!

If you missed any of these reviews and want to read what I had to say about them you can see all of our Chatting Books Online picks by visiting our website at: http://www.conundrumbooks.com/chatting-books-online .

Day 180: What do you do with an Idea?

Chatting Books Online Day 180. Today's recommended book is the award winning "What Do You Do With An Idea?" by Kobi Yamada.

Ideas can be weird, ideas can be silly, ideas can seem absolutely impossible. We can be embarrassed or scared to share our ideas because people might not like them. But in this story book we learn thar what we really need to do is nurture them, live with them a bit, encourage them and they can change the world!

A beautiful story book that makes us think about what's possible, this book sells for $16.95 a copy.

To purchase a copy of this book come see us Mondays - Saturdays between 10:00am and 4pm, and Sundays between 11 and 3 at the shop, or you can message me and we can ship a copy directly to you. Take Care, Mask Up, and Change the World! .

Day 179 : The Dutch House

Chatting Books Online Day 179.  Today's recommended book is The Dutch House by Ann Patchett.  This is another engrossing book by Ann Patchett, as you may recall one of my favorite books is Bel Canto by the same author ( see rec on Chatting Books Day 38 : http://www.conundrumbooks.com/chatting-books-online/day38 ) and this book did not disappoint.

If you are looking for page turning action this is not the book for you, though there is a little of that in here too.  But if you are looking for a very well written , strongly character driven book then look no further.   I mentioned that the characters are strongly portrayed and I would say that this book actually has 3 main characters:  Maeve, her younger brother Danny, and the house they live in as children.  It is a story of obsession, of family drama, of right and wrong, and ultimately of coming to terms with the past.

We sell this book currently in hardcover , it is 337 pages , and sells for $27.99 a copy.

To purchase a copy of this book come see us Mondays - Saturdays between 10:00am and 4pm, and Sundays between 11 and 3 at the shop, or you can message me and we can ship a copy directly to you.  Take Care,  Mask Up, and Keep on Reading.

Day 178: Uni the Unicorn

Chatting Books Online Day 178. Today's recommended book is Uni the Unicorn by Amy Krouse Rosenthal. The subtitle of the book says it all. It is a Story about Believing. This book is a sparkly and magical storybook about a sparkly and magical unicorn named Uni. Other than the fact that Uni Is extra magnificent , with extra golden hooves, she also has the power to heal and mend with her special swirly horn. All that aside she has one other thing that sets her apart from the other Unicorns, you see Uni believes that little girls are REAL ! Now this is a ridiculous myth in unicorn world so people just smile, and nod, and disregard Uni when she talks about how much fun she and her little girl will have when they finally meet. So Uni would just go to sleep and dream about the little girl. And you guessed it, somewhere far away (but not really that far) there was a little girl absolutely convinced that Unicorns really existed. I will let you read the book to find out what happens next....

We stock this magical book in both a regular storybook size that sells for $ 17.99 a copy and in a board book size for younger believers that sells for $8.99 a copy . We really like this book.

To purchase a copy of this book come see us Mondays - Saturdays between 10:00am and 4pm, and Sundays between 11 and 3 at the shop, or you can message me and we can ship a copy directly to you. Take Care, Mask Up, and Don't Stop Believing !

Day 177 : Voracious

Chatting Books Online Day 177. Today's recommended book is Voracious: A Hungry Reader Cooks Her Way Through Great Books by Cara Nicoletti So it is both a cookbook and a sort of blog about her favorite books. In much the same way that I sometimes tell you about how I came across a book or why I feel it is worthy of a recommendation, or who first introduced me to that book the author here does the same thing, starting each section with a anecdote, a memory , or a thought on a book and then why the recipe she has chosen reflects that book, followed by the recipe. For instance in the To Kill a Mockingbird section she tells us a story of how she and her friends used to sit across the street from the only abandoned house in their neighborhood watching through binoculars to see if they could spot the ghost said to haunt it and when she would get her her father would always say" So Scout, did you see Boo Radley today"? and she had no idea at the time what he was talking about She then goes on to give the recipe for Biscuits with Molasses Butter. Naturally in the Silence of the Lambs section she gives a recipe for a delicious Crostini with Fava Bean and Chicken Liver Mousses (perhaps you can serve them with a nice Chianti) .

Combining two of my favorite - stories about books and cooking this book is today's recommendation. It is available in hardcover , 283 pages , and sells for $28 a copy.

To purchase a copy of this book come see us Mondays - Saturdays between 10:30am and 4pm, and Sundays between 11 and 3 at the shop, or you can message me and we can ship a copy directly to you. Take Care, Mask Up, and Enjoy !

Day 176: The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr Morris Lessmore

Chatting Books Online Day 176. Today's recommended book is The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore by William Joyce. I am an absolute fan of William Joyce's work (see Chatting Books Online Day 76 - coincidence I assure you - where I told you about my fave Ollie's Odyssey).

The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore is a story of how a man saved books and in turn books saved a man told in the most delightful storybook. This is the story that inspired the Academy Award Winning Animated Short Film for by the same name. It is the story of a bibliophile and avid writer of his own story that finds himself scattered after a storm and how books and stories saved him and his story. If you've got 15 minutes I highly suggest you pull up the short film on youtube and watch it, you will surely enjoy it.

This hardcover story book sells for $ 19.99 a copy.

To purchase a copy of this book come see us Mondays - Saturdays between 10:30am and 4pm at the shop, or you can message me and we can ship a copy directly to you. Take Care, Mask Up, and write a new page in your book today !
