Day 255: A Time for Mercy

Chatting Books online Day 255. Today's recommended book is "A Time for Mercy" by John Grisham .

This book brings us back to Clanton, Mississippi to peek in on our old friend Jake Brignance from A Time to Kill, and Sycamore Row. Of course many of the same characters from the first book appear in this one, it is a small town after all, but it is a new crime, a new case or two with some new characters as well. I must admit the whole time I was reading it I pictured Jake as Matthew McConaughey and heard his very distinctive voice in my head. It was a completely engrossing read and I hope there is another book in the series (but I hope it comes a bit sooner than the 31 years since A Time to Kill was released in 1989 , or even the seven years since Sycamore Row. I am an impatient girl when it comes to waiting on a new book after all !).

This book is currently available in hardcover , 464 pages , selling for $29.95 a copy.

Day 253: New Roads and Old Rivers

Chatting Books Online Day 253. Since I spent the weekend in New Roads with a pop-up bookshop at The Market at the Mill it has inspired me to choose New Roads and Old Rivers: Louisiana's Historic Pointe Coupee Parish with photographs by Richard Sexton and text by Randy Harelson and Brian Costello as today's recommended book.

Not only is this coffee table book beautiful but I learned something about the parish on the very first page! "Pointe Coupee" means "A place cut off" in french and the area was so named due to the three oxbow lakes which have been cut off of the Mississippi River over the years.

With photos and history of the area, it's homes and churches, and even it's oak trees this book depicts all the beauty that is Pointe Coupee , our neighboring parish across the river.

This is a hardcover , full color coffee table book selling for $45 a copy.

Day 251 : Home : Celebrating Autumn and Winter

Chatting Books Online Day 251. Today's recommended book is the beautiful “home: Celebrating Autumn and Winter” hi by John Grady Burns, Jill Helmer, and Kathy Stewart with photography by Bartram Nason,

A friend recently asked me for a Holiday Coffee Table book and I am embarrassed to say that at first I was stumped. Then while choosing my favorite books to bring to The Market at the Mill this weekend I put this in the box and immediately wondered why I had not thought of it earlier (apologies to the authors and to my friend !)

John Grady Burns is a wonderful floral arranger and horticulturalist. If you have ever seen his work you know how talented he is at bringing the beauty of nature to every arrangement. This book is lavish and gorgeous and all the things this season should be. You will get so many ideas for your Fall, Thanksgiving, Winter, and Christmas tablescapes and decorating you simply won't know which to choose .

This elegant coffee table book sells for $50.00 a copy. If you act quickly I even have a few signed by john Grady Burns - what a fabulous gift for a friend - or maybe for yourself !

Day 250 : The Invisible Girl

Chatting Books Online Day 250. Today’s recommended book is Invisible Girl by Lisa Jewell .

So those of you who follow these posts regularly know that I love a well-written , tightly composed thriller . And I am equally happy reading them in print or listening to them on audiobook through our audio partner Libro. Well this book checks all the boxes .

With twists and turns and deep character development you delve into the intersecting lives of an eclectic group of British folks . When 17 year old Saffyre (sounds like Sapphire) Maddox goes missing after a string of sexual attacks on the streets of the area the citizens go on high alert. Woven in are the stories of her therapist of three years Roan , whom Saffyre has been stalking , his wife Kate , and their two teenage children. There is also Owen Pick who lives across the street from Roan and was recently released from his teaching job due to sexual harassment and his eccentric aunt Tessie . Then there is an entire group of men who are angry at the world because women don’t like them . Throw in a semi-tame fox and you have the makings on a mystery that kept me guessing to the bitter end.

The book is available in hardcover for $28 or as a monthly selection on your Libro.fm audiobook Membership. I listened to this one while driving - great British accents . .

Day 249 : Louisiana Wild

Chatting Books online Day 249. Today's recommended book is actually the first book we ever sold as a bookstore - even before the bookstore had opened. The book is Louisiana Wild: The Protected and Restored Lands of the Nature Conservancy by CC Lockwood.

Here's the story. We had leased the building that was to be our future bookstore home, we had designed and commissioned the shelving we intended to install and had filed all of our legal paperwork. But in August 2015 we were still more than 3 months from actually being ready to welcome folks inside and have books on the shelves that didn't yet exist. As you may know the town's main street and merchants association hosts a fun and festive event in and around the shops each August - at the time it was called Polos and Pearls (I think, if memory serves me correctly. ). Anyway, our friend : well known and award winning photographer C C Lockwood had a new book being released; the town had an event; we had a parking lot in the middle of the action; so why not? We held a Book Signing with CC signing his then new book right in our parking lot. We had a great time, and sold a bunch of books and we were off to the races!

Now about the book. C C Lockwood toured and photographed 60 properties managed by The Louisiana Nature Conservancy throughout the state and shares 220 beautiful photographs that pay homage to the immeasurable impact the Nature Conservancy has had on our state. From swamps to prairies and everything in between this state has so much beauty and this book brings that into amazing focus.

This stunning hardcover coffee table book currently sells for $48.00 a copy.

To purchase a copy come see us at the shop during business hours or you can call or message me to have a copy shipped to you -Now mask up and enjoy the beauty of nature.

Day 248 : Cajun ABCs

Chatting Books online Day 248. Today's recommended book is Cajun ABC by Ricky Pittmen, illustrated by Alexis Braud. This children's storybook is a tour through Acadiana of all things Cajun country and culture. With entries for every letter of the alphabet from Acadiana to Zydeco I once heard the book described as a delightfully illustrated children's encyclopedia of all things Cajun.

But here's a funny story about the book. SWe have sold countless copies of this book since it was released 3 years ago and it was not until today (while reading the publishers description of this book in preparation for writing this review) did I realize that our favorite illustrator Alexis had hidden a pelican somewhere on each page for children to find as you peruse the book. Now I like the book even more !

We currently sell this hardcover storybook for $17.99 a copy.

To purchase a copy come see us at the shop during business hours or you can call or message me to have a copy shipped to you -Now mask up , stay positive and Ayeee!
