Day 80 : Singposts in a Strange Land

Chatting Books Online day 80. Today's recommended book is the collection of 45 essays by Walker Percy : "Signposts in a Strange Land". These essays cover Walker Percy's musings on many topics including Life in the South, Religion and Morality, as well as all of his books . One of the most famous essays included is "Bourbon" (pages 102-107) in which Walker Percy muses poetic on his love of knocking back a bourbon neat. Of course he closes the essay by saying that if you must "monkey around with perfectly good Bourbon", he does provide the recipe for "Cud'n Walker's Uncle Will's favorite Mint Julep". Perhaps you can fix yourself one of these to enjoy on your front porch this Saturday when we would have been holding the 7th annual Walker Percy Weekend Front Porch Tour and Bourbon Stroll but instead this year will be strolling in place each from our own porches. We hope you will join us on Saturday afternoon and have a toast to Southern Literature and to getting together again next year to stroll the streets of St Francisville with bourbon in hand . Be sure to send us a picture of you Strolling in Place on Saturday as we will be sharing them on The Walker Percy Weekend Facebook page.

Signposts in a Strange Land is available at The Conundrum in paperback ( 428 pages) for $ 21.00 a copy.

The store is closed for a couple of days as we try to reorganize life and be ready to reopen a bit closer to our normal hours. We will reopen for in store shopping on Thursday at 10am .
