As you might imagine the reader puts on the gloves and as you read the book every few rhyming pages builds excitement until they say he grabs their ..... (turn the page) bony little knee (or elbow, or footsie etc), at which time the reader grabs the giggling child’s said appendage with the blue gloves and tickles . Squeals of laughter ensue . It really is a fun book (and gloves), sure to entertain any toddler , and really is there anything better than happy toddler squeals and giggles ?
And here’s a little bonus factoid : the author of this book is the cute blonde Josie Bissett , previously of Melrose Place fame. The kit sells for $34.95.

Day 30: Here's the Catch by Ron Swoboda

Chatting Books Online Day 30. Since Minor League Baseball WOULD have started this week in the normal pre-Corona course of events (we know these things in our household), we would like to honor baseball in it’s temporary absence by recommending Here’s The Catch by famed right fielder Ron Swoboda of the ‘69 Miracle Mets .
In this smart, funny, insightful memoir Ron Swoboda tells the story of that amazing season, the people he played with and against (sometimes at the same time), and what life was like as an Every Man ballplayer. Ron Swoboda wasn't the greatest player the Mets ever had, but he made the greatest catch in Met history, saving a game in the 1969 World Series, and his RBI clinched the final game. Read all about that season and beyond in Here’s the Catch . This hardcover book sells for $27.99 .

Day 29: If Jesus Came To My House

Chatting Books Online Day 29. Easter Sunday . Today’s recommended book is
If Jesus Came to My House by Joan G. Thomas . Originally published in 1951 this storybook asks the question how would you act if Jesus came to your house for a visit ? Would you share your favorite toys ? Would you let him have the longest turn on the rocking horse ? And what would Jesus look like ? Would he be an adult or would he be a child just like you ? In the end the little boy realizes that Jesus is present in everyone that visits him so they all should be treated with kindness . This book is recommended for children ages 4-7. ($16.99) .

Day 28: The Face of His Brother by Mark Couhig

Chatting Books Online Day 28. Today’s recommended book ranges from East Feliciana Parish all the way to New Mexico . The Face of his Brother by Mark Couhig Is at its heart the story of an old Louisiana family and if the secrets and scandals that toil beneath the surface .
Now, the name of the author may be familiar to some of you , and yes , this is a novel written by my brother-in-law Mark, but that is not why I picked this book today . (And no, the brother mentioned in the title is neither my husband, nor either of Mark’s other actual brothers.). This is a fast paced, well written thriller of a book filled with plot twist that will keep you turning the pages. Less a “who done it”, than a “what happens now that he has done it” kind of mystery it is a truly enjoyable read that I would choose regardless of the author’s name.

Day 26 : The Runaway Beignet

Chatting books online Day 26. Today’s recommended book is one of my favorite regional storybooks. The Runaway Beignet by Connie Collins Morgan . In this delightfully wacky retelling of the little gingerbread man a lonely French baker in New Orleans creates a friend for himself when his beignet suddenly springs to life and leads him on a chase through the French quarter past lots of familiar sites all while shouting a soon familiar refrain . Over the years it has been one of our favorite storytime books (that’s me as the baker in the photos !) , but my favorite idea for this book was a gentlemen who bought copies of the book to package with a box of beignet mix and send to family and friends as gifts to remind them of Louisiana. I loved the idea of a Saturday morning family time with homemade beignets and a story .

Day 25: Julia Reed's South

Chatting books online Day 25. With all of us celebrating a locked down Easter this Sunday , and all of our birthdays , anniversaries, etc at home these days I thought I would share my favorite cookbook for meals that look elegant and beautiful but actually are quite easy and don’t really take much time . For that I turn to Julia Reed’s South . Julia is an expert on entertaining and making tables beautiful so it should come as no surprise that the photos in this book are exquisite. What may come as a surprise is that she somehow finds a way to do this without spending the entire day chopping and prepping - and the food is simply delicious. Some of my favorites are the Green Goddess Soup with Jumbo Lump Crabmeat (divine ), and the Shrimp Malarca, but honestly I have yet to cook anything in this book that I did not enjoy . And did I mention the pictures are lovely and will carry you away ? (Oh yeah I think I did) . This book sells for $50.

Day 24: Blackbird Summer by Em Shotwell

Chatting books online Day 24. Day 24 of this new way of telling folks books since they currently can’t browse the shop , let’s think about that for a moment . But here we are and so today I recommend to you a little magic to help pull you through . Written by Louisiana’s own Em Shotwell, Author , you can immerse yourself in the slightly mystical world of a family from rural Mississippi . Each member of this family from a small southern town has a power , not overt , but there . Just enough to make people wonder - and wonder they do, and there the intrigue begins ! Start with Black Bird Summer and then stick with the girls and their family through Blackbird Falling, Forget Me Not, and These Hollow Hearts . It was a genre of which I never thought I would be a fan , but I devoured these books .
