Day 39: Petite Rouge by Mike Artell

Today’s recommended book is “Petite Rouge” by Mike Artell . In this Cajun retelling of Little Red Riding Hood our heroine and her quick thinking cat Tejean outwit Big Claude the alligator . Written in a phonetic Cajun French patois you cannot help but read it aloud with an over-exaggerated bad Cajun accent . One of a series of three classic stories retold set in the swamp and with fabulous exaggerated art by the very talented Artell this book is sure to be a favorite at story time . There is even a glossary of French terms used at the beginning , just in case you are not really from Cajun country . This hardcover storybook sells for $17.99 a copy .

Day 38: Bel Canto by Ann Patchett

Chatting Books Online Day 38. Today’s recommended book is Bel Canto by Ann Patchett . My favorite of Ann Patchett’s books; this story of terror, love, friendship and above all, music weaves a mesmerizing tale .
When the world’s most famous opera singer is invited to perform at a lavish birthday party taking place in the palatial home of a South American government official everyone who gets an invitation considers themselves lucky until gun-wielding terrorists burst through the doors and take everyone hostage . As time goes on in their captivity we see not only the fear, but also relationships, friendships and even love blossom in this most unlikely circumstance . So beautifully written you can almost hear the music that wraps throughout the telling.
Paperback $16.99 .

Day 37: There I am by Ruthie Lindsey

Chatting Books Online Day 37. Today’s recommended book is not actually being released until tomorrow (Tuesday April 21,2020). But I wanted to let you know so that you can order your copy today for mailing or Tuesday pickup . The book is “There I Am” by Ruthie Lindsey and the reviews are AMAZING !
Review Quotes:
"Ruthie Lindsey's voice speaks directly to the heart. There I Am is a testament to the things that break us, heal us, and make us who we are."
--Glennon Doyle, author of #1 New York Times Bestseller Love Warrior and founder of Together Rising

"Ruthie has polished and shined and chiseled her great big life into this precious jewel for us . . . Reading her phenomenal memoir is like going on a walk with a best friend and listening to a life-changing speech at the same time: it's equal parts familiar and profound, warm and insightful, comforting and challenging, relatable and unlike anything you've read before."
--Mari Andrew, New York Times bestselling author of Am I There Yet?

"This book is an incredible gift. One of the most moving life stories I've ever read. Or heard of. It has reframed how I see pain, death, and the whole experience of life. I immediately put it up there with the great memoirs, The Glass Castle, Wild, and Educated."
--Jedidiah Jenkins, New York Times bestselling author of To Shake the Sleeping Self

"Consistently readable and inspirational, Lindsey keeps readers in suspense about whether she will be able to fully enjoy her life. At the end, the author addresses readers directly and asks them to focus on healing what is broken in their own lives. Illness memoirs from noncelebrities often get lost in the stacks. This one deserves greater attention."
--Kirkus Reviews

"Compelling . . . with vibrant prose and candor . . . A harrowing and inspiring tale."
--Booklist

"Riveting . . . Lindsey's prose flows fluidly, and readers will be arrested by her descriptions of dealing with grief and the nature of love . . . This inspiring story of a young woman's personal battle serves as a reminder of human resilience and hope."
--Publishers Weekly

Day 36: Plant, Cook, Eat

Chatting Books Online Day 36 . Today’s recommended book combines the themes of several earlier recommendations . If you have been reading along you already know that I like children’s books , gardening books , cookbooks and even children’s cookbooks . Well, here is a book for children that will teach them to plan a vegetable garden , work that garden , care for that garden , harvest from the garden , and then cook what they grew and harvested . “Plant, Cook, Eat” by Joe Archer and Caroline Craig teaches all of that in clear and concise lessons with great illustrative photography . Here are a few pictures of pages from the book to give you an idea . I love that it includes recipes containing the very vegetables and herbs that they teach you to grow in each section . Alexandra Kennon’s Classic Restaurants of New Orleans combines a bit of the history and the stories behind some of New Orleans’ most famous restaurants and restauranteurs and throws in a recipe from each as a bonus . Day 34: An Italian Palate

Chatting Books Online Day 34 . I have been day dreaming about a trip to Italy lately and since I don’t currently know if that will be possible any time in the coming months today’s recommended book is “An Italian Palate” by Robert St John and Wyatt Waters.
This book is a hybrid , it’s a cookbook , done in the format and with the beauty of a coffee table or art book , that can also serve as a travel book.

Several years ago chef Robert St John and artist Wyatt Waters criss-crossed Italy together by car learning about the foods and gathering photos and inspiration for the amazing watercolors included . The result is their third collaborative book in this beautiful cookbook from a food and a land I love so much . Flip through the photos and see the beautiful watercolors and a sampling of the recipes . The only question remaining is what do I cook next ?.... this coffee table sized (11.5”x10”) 164 page full color cookbook sells for $34.95 .
