Day 191: Pinocchio

Chatting Books Online Day 191. Today's recommended book is the classic : Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi. Last week one of our dear customers asked if we had a copy of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi and much to my embarrassment the answer was No ! Sure , I have a lovely edition on my home bookshelf but did not offer one for sale at The Conundrum.

How can that be? How could we not carry the endearing Italian Fairy tale of the wooden puppet that longs to be a real boy? We had several similar stories (ginger bread men and even beignets who wanted to be real) but no classic Pinocchio!

Well we have now corrected that and we now carry two versions. The first is a beautiful hardcover storybook illustrated beautiful watercolors by Quentin Greban. This book runs 164 pages illustrated in full color and sells for $ 25.00 a copy. We also offer a copy called "The Adventures of Pinocchio : Lavishly illustrated with interactive elements".. This hardcover not only has the story with lovely illustrations but also includes "extras" like a pinocchio puppet you can press the perforations to pop out of the book and assemble . He has clothes like a paper doll so you can dress him up - and his nose even grows! It also includes a full puppet theater and additional finger puppets for even more storytelling fun! This book with interactive elements sells for $ 32.50 a copy and is part of a matching set with other books also with interactive elements which we also now carry including Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan,and Beauty and the Beast .

Day 190: Those Darn Squirrels !

Chatting Books Online Day 190 . Today's recommended book is Those Darn Squirrels by Adam Rubin.

This is the story of Old Man Fookwire Old man Fookwire was a grumpy old guy, the only thing he liked was birds. As a matter of fact he liked watching birds in his yard and painting their pictures so much he put up lots of bird feeders to attract More birds. Only what they attracted were SQUIRRELS! Try as he might he could just not scare the squirrels away , so he tried, and he tried. I won't tell you how it ends but it's a children's storybook so suffice it to say that after many giggles everyone lives happily ever after.

Chatting Books Online Day 189 : The Week in Review September 14 - 20, 2020.  This week brought new novels from favorite authors, A beautiful (faux) leatherbound favorite, a book featuring life sized fine feathered friends , a useful children's book to teach a new skill, and a lovely picture book for future ballerinas.

Day 187: The Big Door Prize by M.O. Walsh

Chatting Books Online Day 187. Today's recommended book is The Big Door Prize M.O. Walsh. This is a brand new book by the author of My Sunshine Away (previously recommended back on Day 70 : http://www.conundrumbooks.com/chatting-books-online/day70 ) . As you may recall My Sunshine Away was a New York Times Best Seller and the winner of the Pat Conroy Southern Book Prize, this new book has already been selected as an "Indie Next" pick by Independent Booksellers . You may have met this very talented writer at The Writers and Readers Symposium last year where he both entertained us with his humor and enlightened us with his words on writing.

It starts with an introduction all about hummingbirds in general , then goes into a bird a page with a life-sized picture in full color of these beautiful creatures, a description of each bird along with any unique information or characteristics, and then where it can be found, what is its habitat, what is the size of each bird, and finally what is its status relative to being endangered,

Day 185: How to...Tell the Time

Chatting Books Online Day 185. I don't know what it is but every child that walked in the door this week was immediately entranced by this book (or one of the several copies of it on the shelf ). Today's recommended book is therefore " How to...Tell the Time". And what a useful book for today's youth! In this age of using a cellphone as a clock, and digital alarm clocks telling time on a clock is not something that comes as naturally as it did when some of us were younger.

This board book first explains the how-to of telling time and then has practical exercises that your child can do on the movable clock included at the back/ Like set the arms for the time you brush your teeth in the morning. What time do you have your lunch, etc.

Day 184: The Wizard of Oz by L.Frank Baum

Chatting Books Online Day 184. Today's recommended book is both a favorite story and a lovely edition. The title is The Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum so you know the story and we carry it in several editions which I may tell you about at another time (cloth bound or pop-up anyone?)But the one I want to tell you about today is a very special imitation leather bound edition we have just started carrying. The "leather" (or leather like substance) that it is covered in is a lovely new spring green and just as soft as you might imagine. It is embossed front, back , and spine in dark green with the title in a shiny red. What I love about it is the cover has quotes from the book arranged in different directions as the cover art and there is something very special about the way it is done . You may have seen the imitation leather edition of The Count of Monte Cristo we also carry, if you have seen that one this cover is done in the same manner - both are lovely books.

The book is filled with whimsical illustrations and has the most delightful end papers , they are covered in vibrant red poppies! It is really a lovely edition of an absolute favorite story that is sure to be treasured for a lifetime.
